Food Pantry Thank you
Dear St. John Members and Friends,
This letter is to thank you for your continuing support for our LCC Food Pantry. Your generous food contributions every month help feed needy families in our five-town community. When they thank us for serving their families, they thank all who contribute to put food on their tables.
Through August we have served prepared bags of food to 2968 families, helping to feed 9,653 family members. That is a weekly average of 85 families, up slightly from last year’s annual weekly average of 82. Our needy families also receive extras-perishable food, bread, bakery, fruit, vegetables, dairy and meat, whatever we have, sometimes a very generous bag of extras, sometimes not as much. We have volunteers who pick up these perishable foods from Costco, Marianos, Garden Fresh, Trader Joes, Dominicks, and Whole Foods. We also receive Pepperidge Farm products from a local supplier. To date food contributions are down. The annual Postal Workers
Food Drive has always been an opportunity for our LCC Food Pantry. Our pantry receives all the food collected by the Arlington Heights Post Office. In 2010 we received 22,000 pounds of food. This year, 2011, we received 9,000 pounds...down 13,000 pounds. Weekly food contributions are also down.
In 2010, by this time we had received four cash grants. This year we have received none.
On the brightside...There are those who have always contributed monthly and continue to do so. We have had four VERY generous personal contributions. Thank you for helping us share God’s love.
