Faith and Family Initiative

"H O P E   I N T O   A C T I O N"

The Faith and Family Campaign is an effort to raise between $325,000 and $675,000 over a five-year period (2007-2011) to accomplish these projects:
  • renovate fellowship hall - our church's living room, dining room, and kitchen
  • new ministries for children and youth
  • re-surface parking lots
  • new front and back doors
  • new roof over fellowship hall
  • boiler maintenance
  • mission giving to community ministries
  • build our endowment
  • additional projects as income allows
The congregation approved the campaign in December 2006, after which pledges were sought from  members and friends.  As of August 2009, $511,000 has been pledged to Faith and Family, and $309,000 has been collected.  Thanks be to God!

In 2007, an architect was retained for the fellowship hall project.  At our December 2007 congregational meeting the church approved an overall spending plan for the funds, and an architectural drawing was unveiled.  New computers, phone system, and sound system have been installed.  A new portable sound system and projection equipment have been purchased.  Fellowship Hall is being renovated in three phases, two of which are now complete: new roof, air conditioning, tables, chairs, carpet, information kioisks, fabric wall panels, new video screen, new ceiling, lights, and "clouds."  A children's area will be added soon.  Phase 3 of the fellowship hall project will begin in 2010.  New front and back doors to the church will be installed this fall.

In 2008, five $1,000 checks were presented to these local ministries: Faith Community Homes, Home of the Sparrow, the Night Ministry, Shelter, Inc., and the Arlington Hts. Emergency Fund.  In 2009, we will give six $1,000 checks.

God’s light is coming through the new Fellowship Hall windows!

They are Bronze anodized aluminum with Bronze tinted, tempered glass panes, frosted bottom 1/3rd tilts out with affixed screens. The cost was $13,800 plus $154 for the permit to install the new windows. The Steering Committee will be meeting to discuss possible window treatment.

The “Accessible Faith Grant” funded by The Retirement Research Foundation was submitted. The recipients of the grant won’t be known until late 2010.

Phase IIB construction should begin Monday, June 6 pending approval and permits from the Village of Arlington Heights.

While we hope that Fellowship Hall will be available for meetings and coffee hour during construction, there may be weeks during the summer when it is closed. We have asked the Spiritual Life Committee to develop back-up plans if and when Fellowship Hall is unavailable.

At the Spring Clean Up in May, the storage room in Fellowship Hall was cleaned out in preparation for the construction. Construction is scheduled during the summer months to avoid conflict with the Village Pre-School.

The $30,000 Accessible Faith Grant we received is funded by the Retirement Research Foundation and requires a report every six months. Natalie wrote an overview of the preparation for this project which was approved by the FAITH and FAMILY Steering Committee.
