Do Something For Others Right Now
SOCK-IT-TO-ME SUNDAY(s)
At a 2009 Lenten dinner St. John had a speaker from the Chicago Night Ministry, one of the charities we sponsored. This year, since our sponsored charities are all in the suburbs, we are having Sock-It-To-Me Sunday(s) to collect new, white tube socks for the Night Ministry.
The Chicago Night Ministry helps homeless teens by giving them food and clean white socks. It is said that the socks may be the only clean clothing they have. There aren't nearly enough places for the teens to sleep indoors, although the Night Ministry does the best they can to help them.
Please bring new, white tube socks for teens on the Sundays left in January. They will be collected and taken to the Chicago Night Ministry.
We support the food pantry at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Arlington Hts. Bring in non-perishable food to the church and place it in or on the blue plastic bins near the west entrance.
St. John serves meals to the homeless once a month at the PADS shelter at Congregational United Church of Christ, 1001 W. Kirchoff Rd., Arlington Hts. If you'd like to help, contact the church office, (847) 255-6687, and we'll give you details. This project resumes in October.
Every Sunday we collect quarters in a tube for three children we support through the United Church of Christ Child Sponsorship Program: Godwin in Zimbabwe, John in the Philippines, and Mohamad in Palestine. Information about the three boys can be found on the kiosk in fellowship hall.
