Do Something For Others Right Now

CRS DAY OF FAITH IN ACTION
Wednesday, April 28, Springfield

  • 90,000 children in Illinois have a parent in prison or on parole, but have no access to counseling, transportation, or support. Who will fight for them?
  • Senior citizens in nursing homes routinely face understaffing, poor care, indignity, abuse, and even death. Who will stand up for them?
  • The Illinois state budget is facing a $13billion dollar shortfall, which means devastating cuts to schools, hospitals, and human services. Who will demand a responsible and balanced budget that meets human needs?

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I, send me!"
                                                                                                                           -Isaiah 6:8

What:     Rally, prayer vigil, direct meetings with your state reps, and public action

When:    Wednesday, April 28

Where:  Springfield, IL. Buses will leave from Waukegan, Chicago and the Western suburbs at 6:00am, to return by 8:00pm.

Who:      YOU!!!

On April 28, join 200 people of faith from congregations around the Chicago metropolitan area to travel to Springfield and put your faith into action! Civic Action leaders will travel to the Capitol, rally outside, then meet directly with your State Legislators. We will finish the day with a prayer vigil outside House Speaker Michael Madigan's office and a direct action at the office of the Health Care Council of Illinois - the lobbyists fighting to stop nursing home reform.

Join us to act for justice for children of the incarcerated, a responsible and moral state budget, and adequate staffing in all nursing homes. Only your powerful witness will move our state officials to act. There are only two weeks left, so call now to reserve your spot on the bus.

To reserve a spot on the bus contact Alex Wiesendanger, awiesendanger@communityrenewalsociety.org, (312) 673-3840

We support the food pantry at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Arlington Hts. Bring in non-perishable food to the church and place it in or on the blue plastic bins near the west entrance.

St. John serves meals to the homeless once a month at the PADS shelter at Congregational United Church of Christ, 1001 W. Kirchoff Rd., Arlington Hts. If you'd like to help, contact the church office, (847) 255-6687, and we'll give you details. This project resumes in October.

Every Sunday we collect quarters in a tube for three children we support through the United Church of Christ Child Sponsorship Program: Godwin in Zimbabwe, John in the Philippines, and Mohamad in Palestine. Information about the three boys can be found on the kiosk in fellowship hall.
